The needle plate is the metal plate on which the fabric rests while the needles pierce and the loopers form the overlock stitch. The thread is guided through the hole and grooves, ensuring that the cut and finish always occur in the same position and width.
When the needle hits the plate (bent needle, incorrect assembly, or excessively thick fabric), marks and burrs are created that snag the thread, cause skipped stitches, and can pull delicate fabrics into the machine. Replacing the plate is the reliable solution to restore a perfect finish.
