Husqvarna Viking 3 mm Shell Hem Foot (Ref. 4118520-45)

The 3 mm Shelled Rolled Hem Foot, internationally designated as the 3 mm Shelled Rolled Hem Foot, is an original Husqvarna Viking accessory designed to create narrow decorative hems with a scalloped (picot) effect on very fine fabrics. Its design automatically rolls the edge of the fabric to form a very delicate 3 mm hem, while the stitch slightly pulls the edge, creating the characteristic wavy border.

The presser foot works very similarly to a traditional hemming foot, folding the fabric through its spiral guide as sewing progresses. However, instead of using a straight stitch, this presser foot is used in conjunction with a zigzag stitch (usually with a length and width around 3), where the needle goes off the edge of the fabric in one of its movements, forcing the thread to gather the hem. The result is a decorative and elastic finish in a single pass, without the need for prior preparation.

It is a simple snap-on accessory, and catalogs indicate it as compatible with the vast majority of Husqvarna Viking machine groups, with the exception of some specific mechanical models such as the Emerald series (122, 118, 116). Its use is ideal for exquisite finishes on lingerie, evening wear, silk scarves, organza veils, and other projects where the finish needs to be not only functional but also very decorative and lightweight.
