The Manual Buttonhole Foot (model 5M) is a tool designed to create buttonholes and eyelets entirely manually, in a four-step process. Unlike automatic buttonhole feet (which are long and use a button measuring system), this compact foot is essential for creating buttonholes in spaces where larger feet cannot slide or sit properly, such as very narrow margins, thick fabrics, or reinforced areas.

The base of this component is designed to ensure correct fabric feed: it has grooves that accommodate the satin stitches (the zigzag cord) of the buttonhole as they are sewn, preventing the fabric from snagging or the stitches from flattening. The back of the foot also helps to secure or hold the reinforcing thread, should you wish to create buttonholes with an inner cord for greater stability.

In terms of assembly, it is a snap-on accessory designed for machines in categories J, K, and L. As it is a dense back-and-forth manual process, the IDT system must be deactivated during use.
