The twin-eye needle has two eyes and is designed for sewing with two upper threads (needle threads). It can, therefore, be used to create decorative effects in quilting and with decorative stitches. By using upper threads of the same colour, the seam becomes thicker and, consequently, more eye-catching, creating an effect similar to that achieved with a thicker thread. You can create unique highlights with the twin-eye needle by using sewing threads of different colours or multi-coloured threads: as it has two eyes, the thread sequence is always fixed, unlike what happens when two threads are used in a single eye. This is particularly interesting when using decorative stitches.

Insert the twin-eye needle into the needle bar all the way, as you would with any other needle. Thread both upper threads through all guide elements, following your machine's operating instructions. Use all separation options above the needle. Then, thread one of the threads through the upper eye and the other through the lower eye. Please note that the automatic needle threader does not work with the twin-eye needle. The bobbin is inserted normally, as with other needles.

First, test the desired decorative stitches on a scrap piece of fabric, using the narrowest stitch width, and then gradually increase the stitch width. When using the twin-eye needle, the effective stitch width is limited on many sewing machines. This depends on the characteristics of the machine in question. If the selected stitch width is too wide, the thread in the upper eye will no longer be correctly caught by the hook, and skipped stitches may occur. In this case, select a smaller stitch width.
